According to the report of The Daily Telegraph, research shows that in the UK, the new coronavirus strain is mutating. Nick Roman, a professor at the University of Birmingham and a member of the UK’s New Coronavirus Genomics Consortium, has found that a variant of the new coronavirus called D614G is spreading rapidly in the UK, and that the virus has a significant impact on humans and it is very likely to escalate the global epidemic.
Nick Roman analyzed more than 40,000 genomes in the UK and found that the D614G mutation led to a significant increase in viral infectivity. Speaking to BBC Channel 4’s program Today, he said: “D614G is altered in terms of the viral spiny protein trait, which is an important way in which coronaviruses invade human cells. The spread of this mutated virus is continuing to increase in the UK and globally.”
British Prime Minister Johnson said on July 17 that to prevent a rebound in the winter epidemic, the government plans to significantly increase its ability to do test civilians. The number is up to more than 500,000 per day by the end of October.
Now, we can see that every country is trying their best to fight against the global epidemic caused by Covid-19.
