Currently, the epidemic in the United States is very serious, with confirmed cases about to surpass 4 million. However, there are still many Americans who are reluctant to wear masks under such situation. After studying and analyzing, there are three main reasons that some Americans are not willing to wear masks.
Firstly, many Americans are poorly educated. The U.S. has many of the world's most prestigious schools and one of the highest levels of education in the world, but Americans are generally poorly educated. In the U.S. today, only 28% of people over the age of 25 have a bachelor’s degree or higher. And some Americans are very resistant to the rhetoric of intellectuals and elites who say things that are harmful to society.
So when Fauci, an American epidemic prevention expert, suggested that people wear masks, the Lieutenant Governor of Texas immediately lashed out at him and said, “he has no idea what he is talking about, and Texans don’t need his advice”.
Secondly, for historical reasons, it is illegal to wear a mask in some states in the US.
Thirdly, Yearning for freedom. Many Americans believe that “masks will prevent them from breathing”, “wearing a mask will allow them to breathe in the carbon monoxide that they exhale”. Wearing a mask affects their freedom, so they are reluctant to wear a mask.
However, it has been proved that wearing a mask do help to stop the spread of coronavirus.
